2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Mixed Response

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a more distinct vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.

David

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your group can secure victory? The decision is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as production continues.
